Hmmm... well, it's happy. No doubt about that lol. I'm not a huge fan of the melody, admittedly. Synths sound pretty nice though. Some layering, I hear. You synthesize them yourself, or presets?

I think the kick needs some high end. A common technique a lot of professionals, such as David Guetta and Swedish House Mafia, do is layering on top of the low kick a high kick (and high-pass it so the bass isn't muddy). The kick would sit in the mix better IMO if it had more high end.

Apart from that, the production is pretty good. Nothing sticks out as annoying, so I got nothing to complain about. Good work.

Quality composition. Hard to judge sonical quality, obviously, but it's shaping up nicely. I could definitely hear that in a video game, or a bar, and perhaps in a club early in the night. Question: how do you find the labels you're going to contact? Beatport? Are you going to contact international labels? I'm curious as I will want to try to get signed once I believe I'm professional standard (or close to it).

Cheers.

thanks for the review mate. if you're interested in checking out a full preview of the track, hit up my soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/atomsmasha

as for labels, well thats a very complex question. i dont think i could properly answer it with a reply, so if you really want to pick my brains on this subject, send us a pm. i can't even really scratch at the surface without needing to get really in depth

Nice melodies. I especially like the part at 2:16. It has a somewhat nostalgic retro feel. Sonically, I'm very impressed. You've come a long way. Maybe not the loudest track, but everything sounds nice and clear.

I do have one question though... sidechain?

DJ-Babokon responds:

Thanks!

And yes lol

Pretty kewl track. The dubstep part is quite good. Nice touch with the hi-hats pan movement in the melodic parts too... though, it seems it could have been executed just a bit better.

Regarding what the last reviewer said about the wubs being monotonous, I have to disagree there. I thought there was enough variation in the dubstep breaks.

The mixing sounds pretty good too.

The main reason I don't give you 5 stars is because at the end, where it gets more upbeat, it goes for quite a long time, and could have had some more variation throughout to keep it more interesting.

All in all, a pretty good track! Keep it up!

Kruizy responds:

Thank you for your review! Yeah, that last part probably could have had some more put into it. Ah well.

Regarding your response to z-raven's comment... wow. Every time I gave you constructive criticism, you accepted it happily. Yes, a track has to be musically good, but at the same time, sonical quality is very important too. Especially when it comes to electronic music.

Musically, I found this track quite boring. The lead synths were also too thin and somewhat squelchy.

At the beginning, the lead synth was way quiet. If you want the beginning to be quieter than the rest of the track, then bring down the other instruments as well.

All in all, I found this track to be somewhat uninspiring. I mean, it's not a bad track, it could just do with some work. I notice an improvement in the hi-hat sound since your last track though, so I'm happy to hear that.

Rampant has my vote, for sure. MilkDud has too many cheap effects applied, which clagg the voice up, so that doesn't help. As well as Rampant having a better sounding voice, I found his rhythm and lyrics were also superior.

"To say that you're bad is fucking absurd
You're bad in the same way that Stalin was "kind of a jerk""

THAT WAS ACE

Rampant responds:

I think it's a tie. These two awesome rappers are so awesome, it would be unfair to declare a winner.

Nice work! I can tell a lot of effort was put into this. Good variation, good melody, good video game style beat. Fantastic work!

DJJamez responds:

Thanks man! Yes...took around 4 hours running on a computer which is prone to crashes :p

Different but pretty cool. The mix is extremely clear and good.

The bass lead is pretty good, but sounds like wood hitting on wood at times... which is still pretty cool, to be honest. It could definitely have some more low end though. Probably not throughout the whole track, but just automating 50-100hz (or whatever works best) in a parametric EQ to hit at certain parts can definitely add some cool bass dynamics to a track. I was experimenting with this the other day, and when I executed it properly, it worked extremely well. I'm pretty sure Skrillex did that in Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites. If you listen to that track with a sub, you'll notice that only at certain parts, the main dub lead gives off some serious bass.

The soft parts are pretty nice. Love that saxophone melody.

The drums are ace. Nothing wrong with them, bro.

Nice work!

jpbear responds:

the curse of mixing without a sub, im never quite sure how the low end is gonna come out :(

definetly one of the first things im going to buy when i get back in america after summer.

glad something different could appeal to you, thanks for the thoughts!

It's very good, mate, but you really need to tone down on the reverb. It's clagging up your mix and preventing it from getting that crisp, more professional sound.

"Let the bass kick!" - awesome! You know how to apply those one liners really well.

The hats have too much high-end as well as some of the sound effects (like in Revelations). If you cut the brightness a bit on the master, it could probably fix that. The brightness doesn't sound bad on my gaming headphones, but on my monitor speakers I can hear it strongly. You probably cannot hear the difference unless you have a good set of studio monitors or headphones (not trying to sound elitist, just stating a fact that you probably have not fixed the issue as you cannot hear it).

However, if you do have a good set of monitor speakers... shame on you!

Good work, once again, bro.

Thing is though, I haven't noticed much of an increase of sonical quality or change in your last three tracks. If you want to get somewhere, you're not gonna have to just keep making good tunes, but you'll have to work on the actual sound of your tracks. Don't get to a certain point and just stop - there is ALWAYS room for improvement.

I've seen some people saying that you're ready to go pro. I'll be 100% honest - I don't think you are... YET! If you keep working hard to create good tunes, as well as improving your mixing skills and whatnot, you could definitely get somewhere.

You're not there yet, but you have it in you to get there.

DJ-Babokon responds:

HOLY SHIT an actual review. O>O Haven't gotten one of those in a while. Anyway thanks! I agree with you, I'm not ready to go pro yet, there's still a ton of stuff i have to learn. I am aware of all those problems you told me about though. It's just that i really REALLY struggled to get a good mix on this one lol. And I had been putting this track off from a release for about a month so I figured why not release? Anyway I'm always trying my hardest to get the best possible sound quality, I really am. At this point in time I think it's my biggest issue even though I have improved on it a lot since I started production. Anyway thanks for all your kind words and for following me! I'll have a new tune up soon with hopefully better mastering. :)

Cheers!

Nice vocals. The part at 1:10 reminds me of In Flames' style. The drums could do with a bit more presence. All in all, good stuff!

QuadWing responds:

Thanks! For the first section, I was going for a bit of a repressed drum sound until 1:13ish, but after that point, I couldn't really figure out how to get the sound that I think you're thinking ofâEU"because I'm thinking of it too.

Man, I wish I still had the project files to edit this. It's stored away on one of my numerous harddrives. Blah, need to go find it sometime.
